Nationwide drive to educate citizens ahead of the new Income‑Tax Regime effective from 1 April 2026
The Government of India has rolled out a major nationwide awareness campaign named “PRARAMBH 2026” to prepare taxpayers for the implementation of the Income‑Tax Act, 2025, which will come into force from 1 April 2026. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman formally launched the campaign in New Delhi, describing it as a step towards a simpler, technology‑driven, and citizen‑friendly tax system.
What “PRARAMBH 2026” Means
The name PRARAMBH stands for “Policy Reform and Responsible Action for Mission Viksit Bharat”. It is a multimedia public‑awareness initiative by the Income Tax Department, covering TV, radio, print, outdoor hoardings, and digital/social‑media platforms to explain the key changes in the new law in simple language.
Key Objectives of the Campaign
To inform individuals, professionals, and businesses about the main provisions of the Income‑Tax Act, 2025, including new definitions, simplified slabs, and updated compliance formats.
To reduce filing errors and litigation during the transition from the old Income‑Tax Act, 1961 to the new Act, especially for first‑time filers and small taxpayers.
To promote the new Income‑Tax portal 2.0 and the AI‑based chatbot “Kar Saathi”, which provides instant help on basic tax queries and e‑filing procedures.
Why It Matters for Taxpayers and Professionals
With the Income‑Tax Act, 2025 set to fully replace the existing law from 1 April 2026, the PRARAMBH 2026 campaign is particularly important for CA students, chartered accountants, salaried employees, and business owners. Authorities say early awareness will help avoid penalties, enable smoother compliance, and build greater trust in the tax administration.
